2023 Toyota GR Supra in Malaysia – Six-speed manual and 8AT 3.0L variants, RM645k-655k

It was a busy day for UMW Toyota Motor. Alongside the launch of the Toyota GR Corolla, GR86, Corolla Cross GR Sport and Hilux GR Sport, the company has unveiled the 2023 GR Supra for its full debut at Sepang tonight.

As previously reported, in the 2023 model year, the GR Supra will introduce the long-awaited six-speed manual transmission model introduced last year in the country, and the continued availability of the eight-speed automatic version means that Malaysian buyers now have two GR Supra variants to choose from.

Both are powered by the familiar B58 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine, which from the 2020 update continues to offer 388 hp at 5,800-6,500 rpm and 500 Nm from 1,800 to 5,000. The 8AT 3.0L’s 0-100 km/h time remains at 4.1 seconds, marginally faster than the manual, which can complete the same sprint in 4.4 seconds. The top speed is the same for both the automatic and manual versions, 250 km/h.

The manual transmission is equipped with Toyota’s iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) system, which offers selectable automatic rev control and a shorter final drive ratio of 3.46 compared to the eight-speed automatic’s 3.15.

As before, Brembo brakes, adaptive variable suspension and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential are standard, with a switch to newly designed 19-inch forged alloy wheels the primary exterior change. The unit is said to be 1.2kg lighter per wheel than the previous wheel, which helps reduce unsprung weight.

Likewise, the interior kit remains unchanged, with eight-way power seats, driver-side memory, black leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, a head-up display, an 8.8-inch central touchscreen, a reversing camera and a 12-speaker JBL surround sound system still holding court.

The front of the manual version’s cabin has undergone some small changes – it gets a revised center console to house the shifter – which is crowned by a spherical 200-gram shift knob with a GR logo – and of course it drops the steering. paddle shifters, but the electronic parking brake remains.

There is no change in the list of safety and driver assistance equipment. In addition to seven airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, stability control and hill-start assist, the 2023 Supra is equipped with a full complement of driver assistance systems, including autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring and the rear cross traffic warning system. , traffic sign recognition and adaptive high beam.

The only difference between the automatic and the manual is that the automatic has adaptive cruise control (stop and go), while the manual has normal cruise control.

Six exterior colors are available as standard on the 2023 GR Supra, with Prominence Red, White Metallic, Black Metallic, and Lightning Yellow continuing, while Dawn Blue Metallic and Volcanic Ash Metallic are new hues. The price list mentions two additional colors, Matte Storm Gray Metallic and Matte Avalanche White Metallic, which strongly suggests that these are extra-cost options for both automatic and manual variants.

Finally, pricing. Prices of 2023 Toyota GR Supra versions (on the road without insurance):

  • GR Supra 3.0 Manual – RM645,000
  • GR Supra 3.0 automatic – RM655,000

While the price of the 2023 model year eight-speed auto is a significant jump from the 2022 version’s RM598,987, it’s worth noting that the price includes the 50% sales and service tax (SST) rebate. it was valid until June 30 last year.
