New Malaysian digital toll

New Malaysian digital toll

There has been a lot of chatter online over the past day as everyone shares their thoughts on Malaysia’s decision to do away with road tax stickers and switch to a digital road tax system.

There are many reasons for the difficulty of accessing the system – it seems that JPJ’s systems are overloaded at the moment because everyone is trying to get in at the same time, but if you already have a road tax sticker, it cannot be affected for now. you can try again later when the hype dies down a bit.

The other part that everyone is talking about is using an app to display the digital speedometer and what happens if you don’t have a working phone.

Actually, this was already mentioned in yesterday’s press conference, but since a lot of people missed it, we thought maybe we should bring it up again.

Enforcement officers will check whether you have a valid road tax or not by tapping into the app on their device.

This means that you don’t need to have a working phone to display your digital speedometer. You don’t need to make sure your phone has a battery or data plan. You don’t even have to keep a printout of your digital speedometer in your glove compartment.

And it’s okay if the car is registered in someone else’s name, you don’t need to have the license plate number of every car you drive in the app, because you simply don’t need the app.

The task of enforcement is to prove that you do not have a valid road tax. We do not need to prove that we have a valid road tax.

The road tax is only displayed in the app, so you can track whether you have a valid road tax or not. Otherwise, you may forget the expiration date.
