Periodical Review: Linkage Magazine | ClassicCars.com Magazine

Not secret that the magazine world is not what it used to be. I myself am a refugee from a publishing company that had many, many titles on its roster before the publisher began purging until only three remained. However, in the current journal environment, several journals have emerged that are worth reading. Contact it may have escaped your radar.

Publisher: automotive dandy and bon vivant, Donald Osborne, Contact it reflects the work of his hands Jim Pickeringa veteran of Sports Car Market magazine and its (late) sister publication, American Car Collector.

“Designed for the driving life” I show you Contact– says the slogan. “A bi-monthly publication… that is not about the market, not about driving, not about restoration, not about collectors, not about events, not about restorers, not about discovering a passion for motor vehicles for the first time,” he continues. The main idea is Contact free of the online bombast and negativity often found in a certain other medium—that it’s witty, “the joyous comfort of the echo chamber isn’t Contact reader.” Maybe this is something (missing and) welcome in your space?

That doesn’t mean you won’t be covering your favorite auctions from around the world, but the focus is on the cars themselves and the world around them. Every edition Contact has a theme, so for example the January/February 2023 issue focuses on innovation. Read on for a story on how 3D printing has helped restorers recreate ultra-rare parts, a look back at the most innovative developments of the current era, and the tools you need for your car—the modern, innovative kind, of course. ! All this and more in about 160 pages, in a format slightly larger than the magazines you used to subscribe to that no longer exist.
