You may have heard some chatter about new car subscriptions. Just when you couldn’t feel any older, automakers are offering another way to change the way they do business. In particular, Volvo finally offers Caring from Volvo California residents, giving them the option of a flexible subscription leasing program that includes usage, maintenance, road hazard coverage, limited excess wear and tear, and other general features—all for one monthly payment. They even take care of insurance!
That program will launch in February 2023 “in response to consumers’ growing desire for simplicity and flexibility in ownership, whether it’s a mobile device, streaming channels or a car.” A Care by Volvo subscription is an option you can choose for your new Volvo, no different than adding a heads-up display or bigger wheels to your options list, whether you’re buying, financing or leasing.
“We’re thrilled that Californians will have the opportunity to subscribe to their cars,” said Anders Gustafsson, vice president and president and CEO of Volvo Car USA. “Volvo is about giving people the freedom to move personally, safely and sustainably. The simplicity and flexibility offered by Care by Volvo is unmatched.”
What sets Care by Volvo apart from traditional leases is the lack of long-term commitment – you can cancel your subscription and return the vehicle after the fifth payment (although some states, like Illinois, require 12 months). Care by Volvo has not been available to California residents until now, but that will change in February 2023.
Volvo also has another subscription service called Polestar Engineered Optimization. Named after Volvo’s performance brand, the software-based update lets you download software that makes your Volvo faster and more balanced with “more engine power and torque combined with better powertrain settings.” Fuel consumption and emissions are not affected, and neither is the warranty. Up to six updates are available for Volvo models.
To start the Care by Volvo process, interested parties can visit www.volvocars.com to find out and choose a Volvo model before visiting a retailer to review prices. Once the order is initiated, they will receive a link to complete the application process from the comfort of their home, local Starbucks, or anywhere else. Approved Care by Volvo subscribers can select a delivery date, visit the retailer to complete the paperwork and then drive off with their new vehicle.
