Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction Preview: 1968 Baldwin-Motion Camaro

In the Chevrolet yearbook “Supercars”, there may be none more special than the Baldwin Motion Chase. In a partnership between Long Island, NY-based Baldwin Chevrolet and Joel Rosen’s Motion Performance, the customer ordered a bow-tie car, which was then sent across town to Joel Rosen’s facility to be upgraded from mild to wild, then returned to Baldwin Chevrolet to be customer complete the transaction.

This is an unrestored 1968 Camaro SS/RS one of a handful of cars ordered in collaboration between Baldwin and Motion. Since this Camaro was originally ordered with the M21 4.56-gauge narrow four-speed, it was ready for battle, so Motion machined LAB tie rods to the axle to accomplish the intent. Motion also removed the original 396 and replaced it with an L72 427/425. Of course, Motion Performance was much more than a transplant company—among other things, Motion worked its magic by installing its trademark Holley three-barrel carburetor and fly eye air cleaner, and adding a two-point Mallory manifold. aluminum Schiefer flywheel and Lakewood bell housing. Basically, whatever the customer wanted, Motion was happy to deliver.

Despite its street machine nature, the Camaro still retains the original date-coded power brake booster and master cylinder, as well as the original 4-piston calipers. Inside, you’ll find a Sun Tach and gauges specified by the original owner.

All told, this piece of Supercar history has covered just 22,883 miles – “true unrestored Baldwin-Motion Camaro in exceptional condition,” said Barrett-Jackson, thanks to original bodywork and paint, aside from a few minor touch-ups. The greatness of this Camaro can soon be in your hands as you will be able to bid without reserve on the 2023 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auctionwhich runs from January 21-29 at Westworld of Scottsdale.
