Helmut Marko, Red Bull Advisor, Mistakenly Believes Mexico Is Situated in South America

Red Bull Racing consultant Helmut Marko has issued an apology for making racist remarks about F1 driver Sergio Pérez. In an interview following the Italian Grand Prix, Marko attributed Pérez’s performance to his “cultural heritage” and unfavorably compared his Mexican nationality to that of a German or Dutch person. He also wrongly stated that Pérez is from South America. Marko later tried to retract his statements but only made matters worse. This is not the first time he has erroneously stated that Pérez is from South America, despite the F1 driver being from Mexico. Marko’s offensive remarks and factual inaccuracy have prompted him to issue an apology, although he does not address his factual mistake.
