Lucid Air Pure RWD rims are closer to production ramp-up

When Lucid announced the new entry-level Air Pure device last November, the California-based electric vehicle maker planned to ship it the following month, December. The company managed to smuggle out a few units on the last day of 2022, but it seems the time has come for a wider distribution. AutoEvolution looked at him some e-mails were sent by Lucid to customers on the waiting list to reserve the (relatively) frugal version of the sedan. The mission includes some details that we missed at launch, such as the single-engine exit. A comparison page on Lucid’s retail site says the Air Pure “makes up to 480 horsepower.” That’s the figure for the all-wheel-drive trim, which costs $5,500 on top of the Pure’s $88,900 MSRP to mount a second motor on the front axle. The basic version makes 430 horsepower as a rear driver. Torque is 406 lb-ft for the RWD version; We don’t have a number for the AWD model yet.

At launch, Lucid said the AWD version ran 0-60 in 3.8 seconds. According to the letter to prospective buyers, the RWD version handles the task in 4.4 seconds. The EPA-estimated range for the AWD Pure with 19-inch wheels is 410 miles, with the RWD Pure equivalent predicted range of 406 miles. The Pure can also be equipped with 20-inch Aero Lite wheels, which are standard on higher trims such as the Touring and Grand Touring, but are not included in the 21-inch wheels on other trims.

Those who order before June 30 of this year will get a year of free charging at Electrify America stations for “reasonable personal use,” which we’re taking as code for “don’t mess with chargers.” However, charging times may differ for RWD and AWD versions; the maximum 250kW DC fast charging speed, which can restore 200 miles of range in 15 minutes, is for the AWD model only. We do not yet know the maximum extent of the RWD trim.

The letter focuses on the RWD trim, while Lucid’s retail configurator notes that the pushrod version is “Later Availability.” In fact, due to availability issues, anyone will try configure an Air Pure at your retail location thanks to mandatory options, you can’t get the price below $109,200 after destination. What will eventually become the standard Dreamdrive assistant package, for example, isn’t available yet, so tinkerers will have to add the $10,000 Dreamdrive Pro. Those who haven’t put their names on the waiting list in a while will probably have to wait a little longer to get into an Air that’s less than six figures.
