Renault shouts out Shakira after disparaging Twingo

Renault came to the defense of Twingo after a singer Shakira compared unfavorably with compact the Ferrari in his new diss track, which targets his former partner, Gerard Piqué. Shakira and Piqué have been together for more than a decade and have two children, but their relationship ended last year. and Piqué was rumored to have cheated on her with a much younger woman.

He was the partner of the Colombian singer DJ Bizarrap to produce a tongue-in-cheek song ‘Out of Your League’ dedicated to former Barcelona footballer Piqué. The the video broke YouTube records with more than 63 million views in 24 hours to be the “most watched Latin song” in the history of the platform Guardian and BBC.

The song’s lyrics include comparisons between a Renault Twingo and a Ferrari, with Shakira comparing Piqué’s new love to the humble French compact, implying that he’s more the speed of a Ferrari’s Italian hypercar.

The 45 year old Shakira sings, “I’m worth two [lovers] from twenty-two/You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo/You traded a Rolex for a Casio/Are you going faster or slower?”, then he continues, “A werewolf like me doesn’t come for guys like you,” addressing Piqué. And here comes Renault’s cheeky answer:

Renault is pretty much the opposite it beeps reads: “For guys and girls like you. Turn up the volume!”, the first sentence calls you back to the chorus of the song. And Renault’s exhaustive answer sheet has a bunch of hashtags referencing the song and the song very a public breakup, for that matter.

The 35-year-old Piqué was seen with a 23-year-old woman named Clara Chía. Guardian reports. Renault picked this up with “#claramente”. There is even a mention of it electric vehicles in the tweet, which is a bit of a stretch, but okay, Renault.

I think the connection you want to force between electric cars and young urbanites is fine. Even the Twingo’s livery and ’22’ badge refer to 22-year-olds Shakira mentions it in the song. To be fair, the red Twingo is more appealing to me than a supercar, but I’m kidding. And so will the French automaker. Good on Renault for turning Shakira’s rude comment and common insult into an easy way to plug the excellent little Twingo.
