US-bound Toyota Land Cruiser teased

Toyota was released last Thursday a pair of teaser photos showing a new Land Cruiser arriving in US showrooms, likely as a 2024 model.

It only comes weeks later Toyota released a video with vintage Land Cruiser badges and ‘The Legend Returns’ lettering.

New teaser photos show the silhouette of the Land Cruiser coming to the US, with one photo pitting it against the original FJ40 Land Cruiser from six decades ago.

Land Cruiser nameplate bowed out of the USA After 2021, while the rest of the world a redesigned 300 series generation by 2022. The 300 series Land Cruiser is the twin of the latest Lexus LX which reached the US by 2022, but the Land Cruiser will not make it to US showrooms.

Instead, the US-bound Land Cruiser will be an even more rugged SUV associated with the redesign. 2024 Lexus GX. This is indicated by the latest preview photos, which show the rise of the beltline behind the B-pillar, a design feature common to the GX but not the 300 Land Cruiser sold overseas. The Land Cruiser arriving in the United States will be marketed overseas as the redesigned Land Cruiser Prado.

Rumor has it that the Land Cruiser coming to the US will feature retro badging not used by the Land Cruiser Prado sold overseas. One example is the round headlights, inspired by the design of the FJ40 and similar to what Toyota did with the FJ Cruiser of past decades.

The vehicle will be based on Toyota’s TNGA-F body-on-frame platform, which is found in the 300-series Land Cruiser and its Lexus LX twin, as well as the Sequoia SUV and the latest Toyota Tundra and Tacoma pickup trucks. It’s also found in the Lexus GX, where it’s equipped with full-time four-wheel drive, a 2-speed transmission, a Torsen limited-slip center differential, and off-road-focused Overtrail and Overtrail+ modes. Look for a similar setup for the US-bound Land Cruiser and the Land Cruiser’s Prado twin.
