This is common knowledge electric vehicles can post blistering acceleration data, but a McMurtry Spéirling track car it’s on another level.

McMurtry’s team recently joined the car sales company Carwow and YouTube presenter Mat Watson has appeared in Spéirling a few times.

On the wet track surface, with some drying done, Watson managed a 1.4-second 0-60 mph time, a 2.63-second 0-100 mph time, and a 7.97-second quarter-mile time. Unlike most published electric vehicle acceleration data, the Spéirling’s time was measured without coasting.

Compared to this, the The Pininfarina Battista hypercar needs 1.79 seconds it reaches a top speed of 60 mph, the current record for a production car, although this figure was achieved at launch. Rimac is in Nevera’s hypercar He posted a quarter mile time of 8.5 seconds. Rollout allows timing to begin one foot after the initial starting position.

However, the Spéirling is a pure track machine designed to fit into very tight confines, and for this test the car rode on customized drags. Peak power is 1,000 hp, and all of it is sent to the rear wheels of the less than 2,200-pound vehicle.

To help with traction, the car features a fan ground-effect system that can generate more than 4,400 pounds of downforce on demand.

McMurtry said the battery, thought to be a 60 kWh unit, can deliver more than 300 miles of range in normal driving and 25 minutes of operation at track speeds similar to GT4 race cars. The Spéirling is just as impressive in the corners as it is on the drag strip. In June, former Formula 1 driver and current Spéirling development driver Max Chilton set up a record time 39.08 seconds for the 1.16 mile Goodwood Hill Climb.

McMurtry is currently one the road version of the Spéirling and already opened the order books. Production will be limited to just a few cars and costs will be in seven figures. McMurtry will then launch a follow-up to the Spéirling, an expectedly even smaller car.
