Motorcycle airbag systems are here, and the Donut shows you why

Life on two wheels full of risks and as someone who enjoys tearing around town motorcycle, it is your responsibility to do your best to mitigate them. A great way to do this is to use quality equipment helmetWear-resistant and impact-resistant with CE certification gloves, pants, boots and jacket, which you wear every time you get on your bike. Now, though, there’s something else we can do that can make a huge difference in surviving crashes: wearing an airbag.

If you missed it:

We’re huge fans of airbag vests here at Old Japolne, and for an insight into why, check out this video made by the weirdos at Donut about the technology. They focus on Dainese’s D-Air system, which is fantastic, but definitely not the only system. For example, Steve DaSilva and I have and use it Alpinestars’ TechAir system.

So, what is the TL;DR version of this? Basically, the airbag helps support your head and neck in the event of a crash, which is especially important because the helmet that protects your brain from impacts makes your head heavier and exposed to much more g-forces. A good vest system will also protect your chest and back from impact as it inflates before you actually make contact with anything.

The smart part of modern motorcycle airbag technology is thanks to a number of gyroscope sensors and a computer based on highly sophisticated crash detection algorithms that make the inflator system. The upside of this is that it’s smart enough to notice when you have to involuntarily land, but the downside is that it can sometimes get confused and explode if you don’t collide, but oh well pobody nerfect.

Most motorcycle airbag systems they are also reusable, but after deployment the vests must be returned to the manufacturer to be repackaged and refilled. Considering the not inconsiderable initial purchase prices of these systems, the repackaging service is pretty awesome.

So when you ride, be as enthusiastic (and alive) as we and the Donut brothers are, and increase your safety with an airbag system.
