Pontiac 2+2: The GTO Big Brother

When Pontiac introduced it GTO In 1964, the company also offered a trim package for the Catalina that featured a Ferrari-inspired name: 2+2. It had an equipment package similar to Chevrolet’s Impala Super Sport, but was reconfigured as a performance package in 1965. It features one of the big brothers of the GTO Muscle Car Campy’s latest video.

The 1964 Catalina two-door hardtop and convertible 2+2 package included front bucket seats with console, a choice of four-speed manual or Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, and dual exhaust. The standard engine was the Trophy 389 two-barrel with 283 horsepower (four-speed) or 267 horsepower (automatic), with options up to the 370-horsepower 421 HO.

In 1965, the 2+2 package included bucket seats, floor-shifted three-speed manual transmission, dual exhaust, high-performance axle ratio, heavy-duty springs and shocks, custom striping, front fender slats, and a 338-hp 421ci V8. The top engine was again the 421 HO, although it now produced 376 horses.

One such car is the subject Muscle Car Campy’s latest video. This Mayfair Maize 2+2 hardtop was originally ordered with the standard 421 and three speed, AM radio, whitewall tires and nothing else. Today, the Poncho also boasts Pontiac’s famous 8-spoke wheels wrapped in modern tires.
