The 2024 Land Rover Defender gets a V8 option

The 2024 Defender 130 V8 P500, unveiled Wednesday, features the same supercharged 5.0-liter V8 that was offered in the smaller model. Defender 90 and Defender 110 V8 modelsalthough peak power is slightly down, 493bhp compared to the other models’ 518bhp.

Performance is still impressive for an off-road vehicle that seats up to eight people. Land Rover claims a 0-60 mph time of 5.4 seconds.

Unlike some of its competitors, Land Rover doesn’t go out of its way to visually distinguish its V8 Defenders from less powerful models. It has “V8” badging and quad exhaust tips. Otherwise, the style remains largely unchanged. Buyers will have to settle for Carpathian Gray or Santorini Black. Matrix LED headlights, 22-inch wheels and tinted taillights are all standard.

Inside, the vehicle features many top-shelf Defender features, including 14-way heated and cooled seats, heated synthetic suede steering wheel, head-up display and Meridian audio system. An 11.4-inch infotainment screen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard.

The Land Rover Defender 130 V8 starts at $117,475 in the US, including $1,475 destination charge.

The Defender 130 V8 is not the only new product in the Defender range. The same slightly detuned V8 is now offered in the 2024 Defender 110 as the V8 P500 SE model at $94,475. The 518 horsepower V8 remains in the V8 P525 and Carpathian Edition models.

Land Rover also unveiled the 2024 Defender 130 Outbound on Wednesday, which drops the third row of seats to make room for adventure gear. With the second row folded down, nearly 89 cubic feet of storage is available. The boot has tie-down points, a cargo net and a rubber floor mat that folds down to protect the rear deck when loading items. Drivetrains consist of Defender 130 6-cylinder units. The Defender 130 Outbound is priced at $85,975.

Land Rover also has a County Exterior Pack for the Defender 110. This gives the SUV a retro feel, including unique graphics and 20-inch heritage design wheels. It’s offered on the S and SE models and costs $600.
