GM Defense has received a full production order from the US Army

GM Defense LLC, a subsidiary of General Motors, announced Wednesday that the U.S. Army has given a full production go-ahead for the Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV). GM Defense won the original $214.3 million contract in June 2020 to develop the light and agile all-terrain troop carrier, which can carry an infantry squad of nine soldiers and their equipment.

I’m proud of the GM Defense team for achieving this important milestone in the infantry squad vehicle program, and I’m grateful for the close relationship we have with our trusted customer, the US Army Program Office,” said GM Defense President Steve duMont. “Achieving a full scale manufacturing decision from an ISV reinforces our credibility and amplifies the success of our manufacturing processes. In close cooperation with our customer, we have delivered more than 300 vehicles to our customer the US Army, many of which we have already exhibited for the army’s 82nd.n.d and 101street Airborne Divisions.”

The ISV is based on the award-winning Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 mid-size truck architecture and uses 90 percent off-the-shelf (COTS) components, including Chevrolet Performance racing parts. At 5,000 pounds, the expeditionary ISV is light enough to be loaded from a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter and compact enough to fit into a CH-47 Chinook helicopter for airlift. The high percentage of COTS components in the vehicle gives global defense and government customers the flexibility and choice to counter threats and support mission requirements as they evolve.

“Our flexibility in following the ISV helped win the contract early and has since been instrumental in providing the best value for money solution to the U.S. military,” said Rick Kewley, vice president of product development and development, GM Defense. Advanced Engineering. “Customer feedback has made ISV better not only at an accelerated pace, but also to leverage the engineering and manufacturing expertise of our parent company, General Motors, with new capabilities while meeting the military’s design and performance requirements. We remain confident that we will be able to meet higher production volumes in the future.”

GM Defense has demonstrated the adaptability of the ISV by expanding the initial nine-passenger troop carrier into a family of vehicles. ISV variants produced by GM Defense offer configurable vehicles for a wide range of mission profiles, including fire support, command and control, electronic warfare, unmanned aircraft systems, reconnaissance and logistics, and casualty evacuation.

The ISV was the first major award for GM Defense since its parent company re-established the subsidiary in 2017. For the latest GM Defense news, visit the following page. www.GMDefenseLLC.com and follow GM Defense LinkedIn and Twitter.
